Scholarships and Awards

Most universities offer scholarships. Unlike having to pay back a loan, you do not need to pay back a scholarship. Universities award scholarships based on academic merit, financial need, extracurricular activities and other distinctions.

You can apply for some scholarships and may be automatically considered for others.

Basic Requirements for Admission

All programs at TMU have academic requirements. Some programs require more:

  • Grades-Only programs select students on the basis of academic performance.
  • Grades-Plus programs select students on the basis of academic performance plus non-academic requirements, such as auditions, interviews, portfolios, essays, etc. If distance does not permit travel to our campus, selection methods may include online interviews or video auditions. Non-academic requirements are generally due by the Guaranteed Consideration Date (February 1). However, it is important that you do not submit non-academic requirements until after you have actually submitted your application for admission and have received your TMU Student Number.

Minimum Admissio Requirements (subject to change):

  • Completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
  • 6 Grade 12 U/M courses with a minimum overall average of 70%.
  • All programs have prerequisite subject requirements. Grades required for admission are determined on the basis of competition each year.

TMU receives more applications than spaces available. Possession of the minimum requirements, averages and/or grades does not guarantee admission. Due to competition, admission is offered to the best-qualified candidates. Actual grade ranges required for fall 2027 admission/wait list consideration will be determined as grades become available. Applicants educated outside of Ontario are required to present the equivalent of the Ontario requirements. TMU reserves the right to determine equivalency at its sole discretion.

TMU may use Grade 11 results in the early admission selection process. You must be enrolled in, currently completing or have completed your program’s admission requirements at the time you apply.

All fall 2027 applicants, including those given an early or conditional Offer of Admission, are required to successfully complete all admission requirements by June 30, 2027 (unless otherwise stated). In many cases, this will exclude the possibility of using summer school, night school, virtual school and/or distance education courses completed after this date to meet admission requirements. However, some TMU programs may consider extensions beyond June 30, 2027.

Failed and Repeated Courses

We will calculate your overall average using the final marks from your best 6 Grade 12 U/M courses, which may include repeated/upgraded course marks.

Timing and Process for Admission Decisions

February 1, 2027, is the Guaranteed Consideration Date for all programs.

Subject to space availability in programs, applications, amendments and supporting documents may be reviewed after the Guaranteed Consideration Date for fall admission. Some part-time undergraduate programs also accept applications for the winter and spring terms. Some full-time programs may accept applications for the winter term from international students. We anticipate that the majority of decisions will be made between February and the end of May 2027, based on application processing timeframes and timelines for evaluating non-academic requirements.

Extenuating Circumstances

You are welcome to provide us with information that you feel should be considered in our review of your application. If you believe your grades do not reflect your true abilities and you do not meet our admission requirements, we invite you to submit a Special Consideration Form. You can provide information about any negative circumstances that have affected your studies, such as personal, social or systemic barriers. The form must be submitted prior to receiving an admission decision.

Get Ready: Resources to help you prepare for University

First Year Science Office

The First-Year Science Office provides transitional support during your first year. The office communicates with Faculty of Science students regularly and is the resource to connect with about any of the following:

  • Important dates, deadlines and announcements, enrollment and course selection
  • Transfer credits and academic advice
  • Curriculum information such as program requirements, liberal offerings and minors 
  • TMU policies, services and resources 

Note that Computer Science and Cyber Science students will receive support directly from their programs.

All first-year students can also receive mentorship by connecting with upper-year students through the Peer Academic Leaders in Science (PALS) program.

First-Year Engineering Office

The First-Year Engineering Office hosts transition and orientation initiatives throughout the summer to promote the successful transition from high school to TMU Engineering.

  • Meet with upper-year engineering students from across all 9 Engineering disciplines to help guide students before the start of school.
  • Engineering Boost courses in Physics, Math and Computer Programming to introduce students to concepts taught in their first-year courses (not for credit).
  • Pre-orientation events and campus tours to meet and connect with fellow incoming engineering students.
  • Game nights, sports competitions, scavenger hunts and more — numerous social events offered throughout the summer and academic year.

International Student Support

With students from more than 140 countries, International Student Support (ISS) helps the international community at TMU in reaching their academic, personal and professional goals.

ISS works to:

  • welcome and support newcomers in adjusting to life in Canada.
  • build a sense of belonging for the international community at TMU.
  • connect international students and newcomers to the TMU and Toronto communities.

ISS offers:

  • one-on-one personal development appointments.
  • group or one-on-one immigration advising.
  • programs tailored to community building, exploring and learning about new cultures.
  • health insurance for international students.

Learning Support

Learning Support offers a wealth of learning support services in written and oral communication, literacy, numeracy and academic skills through one-on-one appointments, group tutoring, peer support, workshops and events for all students at TMU.

Examples of programs include:

  • The Academic Edge program for students to build core learning skills and set academic and personal goals in an encouraging and supportive peer community.
  • Weekly English Conversational Groups to practice oral fluency and communication skills.
  • Supported Learning Groups for traditionally difficult first-year courses.
  • Peer Academic Coaches, upper-year students who deliver one-on-one academic skills support.

Feeling well-informed and supported can make all the difference in achieving academic success and enjoying your university experience. The program supports students in feeling more confident in their first year and more knowledgeable of the skills and resources needed to navigate university. Navigate TMU offers a variety of support services for students:

  • With over 100 services available to you at TMU, Student Success Navigators can connect students to the ones that they need to meet their goals.
  • Academic support including helping to develop study skills, or advice on a program and course selections.
  • Various opportunities on campus to develop skills that will help you inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Finding community - joining a large community of students, faculty (ie. professors, instructors) and staff that will be a part of a student's journey. This program is here to support students as they navigate meeting new students, making connections, joining clubs and attending events.

New Students

SHIFT

SHIFT is a summer transition program for students with disabilities who are heading to any post-secondary institution in Ontario.

  • SHIFT provides information to students and parents/support persons about navigating Academic Accommodation Support (AAS).
  • Students can connect with students with similar experiences, explore the learning strategy and assistive technology support resources available to them, and more.
  • Parent/support persons information sessions are also available.

Spanning the Gaps – Access to Post-Secondary Education

Spanning the Gaps offers holistic and innovative transitional program with accessible pathways to postsecondary education.

  • Designed for adults and young people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience postsecondary education.
  • Pathways build academic capacity through a strong community of students, staff and alumni, built on the principles of academic foundations, holistic support, diversity, inclusion and community engagement.
  • Programs that cater to learners who have the motivation, potential and stability required to be successful in postsecondary education but have educational gaps and/or lack the formal admission requirements.

Summer Jumpstart

Summer Jumpstart is a summer transition program that takes place between July and August for incoming TMU students that features 6 key modules:

  • Math Ready
  • Study Ready
  • Wellness Ready
  • Writing Ready
  • Navigate TMU

Summer Jumpstart’s main goal is to help all incoming TMU students feel confident and prepared for their first semester.

Ted Rogers School of Management – Fit For Business

Fit for Business (FFB) is a globally recognized Salesforce award-winning transition program designed exclusively for first-year Ted Rogers School of Management students. This program empowers students with a community and a path to achieve academic, career and personal success. Enabling engagement outside the classroom creates more collaborative, resilient and innovative students that are better equipped for the business world.

In the first semester of university, first-year students are individually placed into a TedPack.

  • TedPacks are small groups of about 45 students that all share the same academic program, creating a community for students to connect and make friends from around the world.
  • Students have the opportunity to gain student leadership experience in their first year by applying to become a TedPack Ambassador for their own TedPack and receiving mentorship from upper-year students.
Residences and Meal Plans

Residence Price(s)

Cost for residence ranges from $9,000 to $15,100+. Meal plan prices range from $5,565 to $7,571 (5 and 7-day unlimited access meal plan options) depending on living arrangements.

These prices are subject to change for the 2027-2028 academic year.

Room Types

Pitman Hall (PIT)

  • Pitman Hall has 14 floors and 565 rooms (single, double, paired and apartment-style rooms). Meal plans are mandatory.
  • As with all of our residence buildings, first-year students are given priority for Pitman Hall housing. Residence floors and room styles are open to all gender identities.

International Living/Learning Centre (ILC)

  • The ILC is an 11-storey former hotel. It can accommodate 256 residence students in its single- and double-style rooms. Meal plans are mandatory.
  • As with all of our residence buildings, first-year students are given priority for ILC housing. Residence floors and room styles are open to all gender identities.

Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex (DCC)

  • DCC is our newest building on campus. In this multi-use building, 2-bedroom and 4-bedroom residence apartments are located above the first 8 floors of the building. Residence space includes 17 floors and 332 rooms. Meal plans are mandatory.
  • As with all of our residence buildings, first-year students are given priority for DCC housing. Residence floors and room styles are open to all gender identities.

  • Resident Advisors are located on each floor
  • Academic Links are assigned to each faculty and assist with academic resources

International Living/Learning Centre (ILC):

Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex (DCC):

  • Resident Advisors are located on every other floor
  • Academic Links are assigned to each faculty and assist with academic resources
  • Study lounges on every other floor
  • Central laundry facilities and a large community space on the 8th floor
  • 24-hour security
  • High-speed internet access
  • 2 different room styles: 2-bedroom apartment and 4-bedroom apartment
  • Mandatory meal plan

Residence Guarantee

We do not guarantee residence for first-year students. When offering a space in residence, TMU gives priority to first-year students traveling the furthest distance away from our campus. TMU prioritizes residence applications by year of study and by distance from campus.

Once you have a full or conditional Offer of Admission from TMU, you may apply for residence at TMU. Multiple rounds of offers to stay in residence are made, starting in mid-June. Spaces are offered throughout the summer and into the academic year.

Deposit Required

A $50 residence application fee is required with your application, paid into your MyServiceHub account.

Please note that your first installment of residence fees will be due by your offer deadline. The first installment of residence fees ranges from $4,000 to $6,300, depending on the room style. Room prices are indicated on our website.

Meal Plans

Meal plans have 2 components:

1. All-you-care-to-eat

PIT Dining Hall (Pitman Hall) and the ILC Dining Hall (International Living/Learning Centre).

Meal plan dollars go toward unlimited access to eat as much or little as you like at the PIT or ILC Dining Halls. Your TMU Student OneCard grants you access to the PIT and ILC Dining Halls.

Students who hold 5-day meal plans or 7-day meal plans also get $450 in flex dollars to spend at campus eateries like the Hub Café or participating food retailers including Balzac's, Oakham Café and The Met Campus Pub. If you are on a Declining Balance meal plan, purchases are deducted from your Declining Balance amount.

2. Residence-based meal plans

Pitman Hall (PIT), the International Living/Learning Centre (ILC) and the Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex (DCC).

PIT and ILC residents are automatically enrolled in the 7-day meal plan. Students in DCC are automatically enrolled in the 5-day meal plan but can upgrade to the 7-day meal plan. If you are living in apartment-style units at Pitman Hall, you will be enrolled in the $1,465 declining balance meal plan but you can choose the 5-day or 7-day meal plan to supplement your own cooking.
