Smith Engineering is excited to anounce 3 new direct-entry programs for Fall 2026. These new pathways streamline the academic experience by allowing students to enter their chosen discipline in their first year:

• Smith Engineering - Direct Entry Chemical Engineering (Program Code QEH)
• Smith Engineering - Direct Entry Civil Engineering (Program Code QEN)
• Smith Engineering - Direct Entry Mining Engineering ( Program Code QEV)

Program Prerequisite Updates

Sciences (QS) and Concurrent Education Science (QF): English 4U, Calculus and Vectors 4U, plus two of Biology 4U, Chemistry 4U, or Physics 4U. Additional two required courses may be 4U or 4M.

Life Sciences and Biochemistry (QL): English 4U, Calculus and Vectors 4U, Biology 4U, Chemistry 4U. Additional two required courses may be 4U or 4M.

Kinesiology (QK) and Concurrent Education Kinesiology (QKF): English 4U, Calculus and Vectors 4U, and Biology 4U. Additional 3 required courses may be 4U or 4M.

Health Sciences (QH): English 4U with a minimum grade of 80%, Biology 4U, Chemistry 4U, and Advanced Functions 4U or Calculus and Vectors 4U. Additional required courses may be either 4U or 4M. Supplementary Application required.

Supplementary Information

Admission to Queen's is highly competitive. We may consider Supplementary Information, including the Supplementary Application, audition or portfolio, in addition to a student's academic record, when making admission decisions. Each applicant to Queen's has their own To Do List specific to them, detailing exactly what is needed to complete an application.

Applicants to Commerce, Nursing and Health Sciences are required to submit the Supplementary Application by the February 15 deadline. Upper-year applicants to Commerce and Health Sciences are also required to submit a Supplementary Application. We encourage applicants to review the FAQ and rubric for the Supplementary Application in preparation for their submission. Applicants to Music and Concurrent Education/Music are required to complete an audition.

First-generation Admission Pathway

Queen’s encourages participation in postsecondary education by first-generation students. First-generation candidates include those affiliated with any of the community organization partners listed. Eligible candidates are offered an additional and alternative admission pathway to the first year of a full-time, first-entry undergraduate degree program.

We will make offers of admission to first-generation candidates whose total application shows strong evidence of academic preparedness and potential. We will introduce you to the contacts and services available at the Student Academic Support Services, the Student Experience Office and the Student Awards Office during the application process and upon admission.

We encourage you to access these services throughout your time at Queen’s. If you are admitted through this pathway, we encourage you to make use of the academic advising and academic support services available to all students at Queen’s University.

Indigenous Admission Pathway

We offer and encourage verified Indigenous candidates an alternative pathway for admission to the first year of a full-time, first-entry undergraduate degree program, known as the Indigenous Admission Pathway.

With this pathway, you are provided additional benefits that will assist you before, during and after your transition to university. As a verified indigenous student through the Indigenous Admission Pathway some of those benefits include:

• Personalized admission support
• Residence gurantee with optional early move-in (available to students who accept their offer of admission before the deadline and submit the residence application and deposit by the deadline)
• Access to dedicated need- and merit-based financial awards
• Early connection to the Four Directions Indigenous Student Centre, cultural suppors, programming, and support services

To be considered for the pathway, Indigenous candidates apply through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) and self-identify as being Indigenous. Candidates must then submit proof of Indigenous status DIRECTLY to Queen’s University to access the pathway.

Candidates must meet the general admission requirements for each program and deadlines for undergraduate admission, in addition to submitting any supplementary information required to complete the application (details including due dates, are on each applicant's SOLUS Student Centre).
