Basic Requirements for Admission

Ontario Secondary School Diploma
Six 4U/M courses including the required courses for your chosen degree.
ENG4U (required for all degree programs)

We use your top 6 completed 4U/M (or equivalent) courses, including required courses, to calculate your admission average. Where not available, we use a combination of the top 6 completed or in-progress 4U/M and completed 3U/M courses, including required subjects.

All offers are conditional upon completion of the OSSD, required courses for your program of interest, and a final admission average as outlined in your offer.

All admission conditions must be fulfilled by August 14, 2027.

Supplemental Application Forms

We recognize that non-academic factors play an important role in your life. High school applicants may choose to submit one or both of the following forms:

Student Profile Form (SPF): This is your opportunity to tell Admission Services about activities that demonstrate leadership and citizenship qualities, and to outline factors beyond your control that have affected your academic performance, such as illness or extenuating circumstances.
Supplementary Information Form for Students with Disabilities (SIF-D): If you feel your admission average does not reflect your true academic ability as a result of a disability, you are encouraged to complete this form.

If your admission average in May does not meet the cut-off for the program you have applied to, we may consider these forms along with academics if your average falls within a discretionary range of the final cut-off. Submission is optional but strongly encouraged.

If you are applying to the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program or the Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management, you need to submit the Background Information Form as part of your application. You can learn more about these mandatory forms on our website.

Failed and Repeated Courses

The University of Guelph will use the highest grade reported from a Ministry-approved institution for any repeated courses.

Timing and Process for Admission Decisions

If you are applying directly from high school, you will be considered for admission on an ongoing basis, beginning in November. Offers will be released on an ongoing basis from November to May. Exceptions: Offers to the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program will be made from late-April to mid-May.)

International Student Advising

The International Student Advisors (ISAs) provide one-on-one confidential advising to full degree undergraduate and graduate international students, new immigrants and refugees. Common topics of conversation include housing, academic concerns, immigration (study permit, visa, post-graduate work permit, etc.), financial difficulties and culture shock.

Our ISAs can also help you get involved on campus, connect with other students and talk through any personal concerns.

Appointments can be booked with an ISA and we also have drop-in hours each semester for those who want to come by without an appointment.

Off-Campus Living

The Off-Campus Living (OCL) team provides a number of services for students, staff, faculty, landlords and community members. We offer resources including information on rental and tenant advising, trip planning and transit information and resources for landlords and neighbourhood residents. You will also find information about programs and opportunities for students living off-campus to build community at U of G.

Peer Helper Program

Peer Helpers are a dynamic team of U of G students committed to providing important programs and services to the university community. Over 250 undergraduate and graduate students from a broad range of academic programs are involved as Peer Helpers across the campus each semester.

START Accessible

This 2-and-a-half-day orientation introduces participants to Student Accessibility Services and other campus resources, preparing you for life as a U of G student while experiencing a disability.

START Indigenous

This orientation program for incoming self-identified First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students helps you and your family members learn more about life at U of G and the supports available. Meet the Indigenous Student Centre staff and other students who will be at your side throughout your journey.

START International

START International is an orientation program for new full-degree international undergraduate and graduate students, new permanent residents to Canada, new exchange students and out-of-country Canadians. The program will introduce you to the U of G campus, resources available to help you with your social and academic transition and what you can expect from your University of Guelph experience. Sessions will cover useful information on topics such as cultural adjustment, essential immigration information, the Canadian university academic system, health insurance, professional development and other support services that can help students make successful transitions.

START U of G

Whether you’re a domestic, international, or transfer undergraduate student, the START Team is here to support your transition and set you up for success. We’ll help you navigate what to expect in your classes, keep you on top of important deadlines, and share opportunities to get involved in your new community. START U of G programming continues throughout your entire first year.

Student Accessibility Services

Student Accessibility Services helps with equitable access to the academic environment. We support all types of disabilities - permanent and temporary, evident and non-evident, episodic or relatively unchanging. Whether your disability is new or has been with you your whole life, please contact us as soon as you’ve been admitted.

Student Experience

In Student Experience we cultivate dynamic environments outside the classroom for all students in which they can learn, build community, develop a sense of belonging, explore lived experiences and intersecting identities, deepen their understanding of themselves and each other, and engage in meaningful dialogue.

We provide programming, community building, skill building, special events, individual and group advising, study abroad opportunities and leadership development experiences.

The University of Guelph's residence system consists of 16 residence communities that accommodate approximately 5,000 students. Room types include single, double, triple and quad rooms; 3-person apartments; suite-style apartments; and townhouses.
