Basic Requirements for Admission

Admission averages are based on your top six 4U/M marks. Minimum admission requirements:

65% for most programs,
70% for Business Administration, Computer Science Co-Op, Psychology and Social Work
75% for Biology

Failed and Repeated Courses

We do not count failed courses. We select the higher grade from repeated courses for inclusion in the admission average calculation.

Timing and Process for Admission Decisions

If you attend a semestered school, you may receive an early conditional offer once your grades become available, if you fulfill the following criteria:

you completed at least three 4U/M courses with an overall average equal to, or better than, the program cut-off and
you are enrolled in a sufficient number of courses in order to complete at least six 4U/M courses by the end of June.

Note: If you are marginally below the program cut-off, but your overall average in Grade 11 and 12 courses is 70% or higher, you may be considered for an early offer of admission.

If you attend a non-semestered school, you may receive an early conditional offer once the Office of Admissions receives interim grades for at least six 4U/M courses showing an interim average that is equal to, or greater than, the program cut-off.

If you do not receive an early conditional offer of admission, you will be considered on an individual and ongoing basis, as additional marks become available. If you are not offered admission to your preferred program, you will automatically be considered for admission to an alternative program, provided you meet the university entrance requirements. Algoma University has rolling admission; therefore, applications for September 2025 will continue to be received and processed until the start of the semester.

Algoma University Access Program

The University Access Program is a pre-university qualifying year, 2 semesters in length, that offers students an excellent opportunity to satisfy their university admission requirements and acquire essential university study skills.

Who is eligible?

Students who have achieved their OSSD diploma with a minimum cumulative average of 60-64%;
Students who have completed at least 5 Grade 12 U/M courses with a minimum cumulative average of 60-64% for those AU programs which require a minimum 65%;
Students who have completed at least 5 Grade 12 U/M courses with a minimum cumulative average of 65-69% for those AU programs which require a minimum 70%.

Please note that college transfer and international students may also be eligible for this program. Please see website for details.

AUAP is not a stand-alone program. Eligible students do not have to apply for the AUAP separately. They will apply for a degree program of their choice through the regular channels (e.g., through Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) or directly via the University’s Application Portal). Eligible students will receive admission with a condition of AUAP completion.

The Writing Lab & The Math Lab
- The Writing Lab is a free service available to all AlgomaU registered students in any discipline and year of study. Students make individual appointments to meet with the Writing Lab Instructor to get help with planning, drafting, researching and referencing throughout the writing process.

Résidences et plans de repas

Coût de résidence

The following residence information is specific to our Sault Ste.Marie Campus. We are excited to be opening a residence building at our Brampton Campus in the next few years – details to come!

The following costs are per academic year, September to April (8 months).

Algoma Dormitory (first year): $5,910 plus tiered meal plan starting at $3,000 (meal plan is mandatory)
Spirit Village Dormitory (International & Canadian upper year): $5,410 plus tiered meal plan starting at $3,000 (meal plan is mandatory)
Spirit Village Townhouse (upper year): $5,510 (no mandatory meal plan)

Note: $100 damage deposit and $50 residence life fee applicable for all residence options.

Types de chambre

All residence rooms are private single rooms.

Dormitory students share a bathroom with 1 other student (same gender). Weekly cleaning is provided in dorm bathrooms, common areas and hallways. Dormitory common rooms are available that house study spaces, entertainment centres and shared kitchens.

Townhouse students share 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen and a living area with 4 other students.

Commodités

Wireless internet access in residence (common areas, outside, living rooms, etc.) and local phone service will be provided. Laundry and mail facilities are available on site.

Garantie de résidence

Guaranteed Single Residence Rooms for All First-year Students

We guarantee a single room in residence to all first-year students who apply directly from high school and pay their deposit prior to the residence application deadline.

You must apply by June 1, 2026, with a refundable $500 deposit, plus a $50 non-refundable application fee.

A non-refundable $50 residence application fee is required when you submit your completed application, as well as a $500 refundable deposit.

Plan de repas

The campus meal plan is mandatory for students living in dormitories. Meal plans are optional for students living in the townhouses.

If you require a special menu, contact the housing office prior to arrival to ensure adequate time for meal plans and preparation.
